A classic operetta
The best and most well-known operetta by Emmerich Kálmán, and one of the best world operettas ever, that’s Czardas Princess. This production by the Karlín Music Theatre in cooperation with the Hungarian BUDAPESTI OPERETTSZÍNHÁZ aims at attracting a wide spectrum of spectators to the operetta. This version has been successful not only in Budapest, but also in Salzburg, Munich, St. Petersburg and in other European cities. The immortal Czardas Princess is a success not only due to its wonderful music but also because of the witty libretto. A young Viennese prince, Edwin, falls in love with Sylva Varescu, the star of the Orfeum Cabaret in Budapest. However, Sylva has to leave for a tour across the United States and Edwin is called back to his regiment. In order to prevent Sylva from leaving, Edwin makes an instant decision: he makes a proposal to Sylva to get married and he confirms his decision before a notary directly at the Orfeum that very evening.
