A theatrical production featuring a mobile set and music from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
A long time ago, a good and kind King ruled a country far away. He had seven sun circles and he lived in harmony with the Gods. When he was dying, he gave his power and all his riches to a wise priest, Sarastro. This made the Queen so angry that she left the country together with her small daughter Pamina and from that time lived in an empire of eternal night. A snake of hatred had nested in her heart and that’s why Sarastro took the adolescent Pamina away from her, back to the empire of the Sun, against her mother’s will.
One day, a handsome boy, Tamino, went hunting. The Queen of the Night caught him during a fight with a dragon and promised the love of her daughter to him, provided he brings her back together with the seven sun circles. She gave him a jolly fellow, Papageno, as a companion for his journey, as well as a magic flute which the King himself had carved during one magical night. When Pamina and Tamino met, it was love at first sight. However, both of them had to pass a hard test before they were free to enjoy their love.
Mozart’s “Magic Flute” was first shown in 1791. It was a period of enlightenment, marked by the French Revolution and a desire for modern science and selfdetermination.
