A chamber musical
The life stories of famous characters are one of the most popular literary genres. Hungarian dramaturgist Éva Pataki found inspiration for her play Edith and Marlene in the life stories of two great personalities of the 20th century, the French chanson singer Edith Piaf and the German diva of the concert podium and film, Marlene Dietrich.
Each of the heroines lived an unforgettable life full of the highest artistic successes as well as personal disappointments. The play takes the audience through the most important moments in the life of Paris’s Little Sparrow, as she was nicknamed. Her grateful audience truly loved her for the truth she put into her songs.
The chamber musical production Edith and Marlene doesn’t describe their life stories in the real sense of the word. It is mainly a depiction of different life principles and standpoints. One is a celebration of a spontaneous, sincere desire to live one’s life fully at every moment. The other is all about the making of rational decisions in life. The power of the ideas as well as the theatrical popularity of the life stories is accentuated by the selection of the most important songs and works of Edith Piaf and Marlene Dietrich.
This performance is part of the project "Visegrad at Stage" supported by International Visegrad Fund.
