Milan Svoboda

Music composer, conductor, jazz pianist. He studied at the Conservatory of Prague, musicology at the Faculty of Arts of the Charles University, composition at the AMU of Prague; he obtained a scholarship in the Berklee College, Boston, U.S.A. In 1974, he founded his first jazz orchestra: the Prague Big Band. Later on, he became a conductor of the Czech/Polish Big Band. Nowadays, he is the head of a young creative orchestra called Kontraband and his own Kvarteto. He is a composer active not only in the jazz area but he also composes music for theatre, film and television. He composed music for more than sixty theatre plays, nine films and many short films (such as Your Loves are Notified, The Last Butterfly, etc.). Among his latest most important works, an original musical Foam of the Daze based on a novel by Boris Vian should be mentioned together with a full-length ballet Maugli for the National Theatre of Prague. Svoboda was also the author of the music production and the conductor of the musical Evita. He composed the music for The Parasite performed in the Brno City Theatre.
