Impressive melodrama
The third part of the famous “antique” trilogy written by Jaroslav Vrchlický and Zdeněk Fibich Hippodamia’s Death may be specified with a calm heart as an impressive music-dramatic thriller. The two great persons of the end of the 19th century managed to write and set to music the story full of fighting between reason and passion, the story of burning love and jealousy leading to destruction of not only individuals but of the whole royal family, the story of ardent desire of revenge surviving for dozens of years inside human beings.
Simultaneously, Hippodamia’s Death is a tragic story of a mighty man who must do serious decisions that influence the fate of his family and the whole community. Hippodamia’s Death is a drama about the effort to get free of family malediction and grasp the fate of one’s own and others in one’s own hands. The ardent, multilayered drama will not leave anybody cool.
